I looked at two races in particular last night, one at Lingfield and one at Kempton. The evening race looks a little trappy and with concerns over the possible shape of the race I've decided to leave that alone.
Last night both Gags and I looked at the Lingfield race and came to the same conclusion. No real surprise as the selection is fairly obvious all things considered. We decided we would back the selection at a minimum price of 4/1. This morning Ladbrokes were the first up with prices and 4/1 was their price. We waited until a number of other firms had priced the race up, but when it was obvious that we wouldn't get any better than 4/1 we sent the text out to those on the list and backed the selection ourselves at the 4/1 with Bet 365. I don't think the best odds guaranteed will be needed on this selection as it appears everyone in the world wants to be on and it's now a best priced 5/2 shot!
330 Lingfield - COLD TURKEY 1 point each way at 4/1 (Ladbrokes, Hills and Bet 365)
Obviously a lot of punters have come to the same conclusion about this ones chances today. Having said that we're not going mad on it. Hopefully it will run a good race and if it wins we'll of course be delighted but this is just one selection at a value price which we're backing to normal stakes, that's all. Some may question why we've only gone with smallish stakes if this is such an obvious pick. That would be a fair point, but we like to be cautious as we've both said before and sometimes when everything looks so bloody obvious it doesn't always go to plan. How many times do we all see horses punted off the boards only to meet trouble in running? We'll stick with what we're doing and if that means we keep adding to the profits slowly and consistently then that's fine by us. By the looks of things there seem to be plenty of people prepared to back this at almost any price and I can see this going off really short. I suppose it just means that on this occasion we definitely got the value by betting early at 4/1. I'm not going to put up a load of analysis for this race because it really is such an obvious selection. Let's hope the race is run at a reasonable pace and our selection is given the opportunity to show he's the best horse in the race.
